Board Minutes:
Following dinner, meeting
called to order at 7:15 p.m. by President Terry Mason. Roll call:
Hall of Fame members present were O.R. “Bob” Best, O.D. Green,
Orien Sealine, Ron Weuve, Arden Schoep, Don Voelker, Jack Wierson,
Walt Cottrill, Terry Mason, Steve Huntrods, Art Abel, Dave Leeper and
Rick Slobe. All other board members present except Greg Knop, Randy
Moore and Verle Haupt (all excused) and Chad Knop (absent). It was
noted that a quorum was present.
Minutes of the Sept. 15
meeting approved as printed. Treasurer’s report approved as
printed.
Mason gave a report on
the activities of the USBC Committee. He told the board that the
committee has recommended that the board approve joining the USBC,
which replaces ABC as of Jan. 1, 2005. He also noted that it appears
likely that a council of delegates meeting will be called in January
to approve a merger of our association with YABA and WIBC
associations. Motion by Schoep, second by Jacobson and carried that
the Ames Area B.A. join USBC.
Schoep gave a state
jamboree report. In activities at Boone, our association was chosen
to host the 2005 state fall jamboree. He noted that Roger Dalkin,
executive secretary of ABC, was on hand to conduct the meeting that
centered on USBC.
Delegates were approved
for the ABC convention at Baton Rouge. Volunteering to go were O.D.
Green, Bryan Carsrud, Scott Tscherter, Jerry Everett and Brian
Harris. Motion by Howard Kyle, second by Keith Hawkins and carried to
elect those five as out delegates and allow each delegate $500 for
expenses.
Hawkins gave a report on
the 9-pin tournaments, noting that the Story City tournament produced
109 total entries, by far the most ever there, and Ames had a very
strong turnout also with 138 total bowlers.
Schoep told the board
that the copy machine/fax that the association had purchased in 2000
for the state tournament was in need of repairs that would run about
$500. Since that is more than a new model would cost, motion by Walt
Cottrill, second by Harris, to allow Schoep to shop for and purchase
a new one. Motion carried.
Schoep gave a report on
plans for the association tournament to be held in Nevada the first
three weekends of February. Price is unchanged from last year. At
least one new sponsor, Rick Dennis Roofing, has been lined up through
the efforts of Brian Harris.
Delegates for the state
convention in Des Moines were approved. Mason indicated he could
attend, it was unsure if Greg Knop could attend since he was absent
and Jake Jacobson said he could attend. Alternates are Green, Tim
Kadolph and Tscherter.
Hall of Fame chairman
Walt Cottrill presented the ballot for this year’s election. Before
voting was done, Schoep made a motion, seconded by Jacobson, to set
aside normal rules and elect Dave Cottrill and Harvey Burkholder into
the Hall of Fame by acclamation in addition to other candidates. Both
have been nominated for the Hall of Fame in the active category but
have since become inactive, with Burkholder passing away last month.
Motion carried.
Lysle Musgrove was the
only other candidate in the over 75, inactive or deceased category
and he was elected on the first ballot.
Nominees considered in
the under 75 and active category were Gary Kuhfus, Verle Haupt, Jack
Garrey, Jim Beck, Miles Bairey, Randy Moore, Dennis Mensing, Robert
Crouch and Keith Hawkins. On the first ballot, Beck received the most
votes, but failed to receive the 17 needed for election (75%). A
second vote was taken voting yes or no on Beck, and he received 16
votes. Upon request from the floor, an additional vote was taken
concerning Beck and again he achieved only 16 votes, so no other
inductees will enter the HOF this year.
Meeting
adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
