COMITTEE REPORTS
AMES AREA USBC
- Association Tournament: C.
McPartland reported that the donation letters had
been mailed and she
would be giving committee members lists to call for donations.
- Youth
Committee: K. McPartland reported that the youth Team Tournament
was held last
weekend Nov 4 & 5 in Story City. McPartland reported the winners
of the tournament (see results sheet attached). The youth Doubles
Tournament will be held in Ames on Nov 11 & 12 and the youth
Singles Tournament would be held in Nevada on Dec 9 and 10. He
mentioned that last year the trophies for the tournament went way
over budget and that this year he would like to significantly lower
the amount spent for trophies. McCoy made a motion that the youth
committee stay within the budget when buying trophies for the
tournament. Loneman seconded the motion. Motion carried
unanimously.
- 3. 9-Pin
Tournament: Jacobson reported on the results of the 9-pin tournament
held in Ames on Oct 28 and 29. There were 34 doubles and 57 singles
entries. Jacobson reported that they were busy both days of the
tournament. Jacobson also thanked those who helped out at the
tournament that weekend. (see results sheet attached).
- 4. Budget
Committee: Knop handed out the proposed budget for the 07/08 year. The
proposed budget was looked over and we decided to table a vote
on the budget until the next board meeting.
OLD
BUSINESS:
AMES AREA USBC
State Jamboree: Schoep talked about the
state Jamboree (see attached report). He
explained that the state was going to use it’s state dues to help
fund the website at both the state and local levels. We will no
longer be paying a yearly fee for the website, and part of our
original set-up fee will be refunded. Schoep said the state hopes
that by getting rid of the yearly fee, the state hopes that more
associations will join the state’s website.
NEW BUSINESS:
AMES AREA USBC
Hall
of Fame
elections: Mason ran the Hall of Fame elections. Schmidt and
Demeray assisted by handing out, collecting and counting the ballots.
While the ballots were being counted, there was a discussion on how
to get more nominations for the Hall of Fame. Some of the
suggestions included:
- To not limit the number of people able to be
nominated
- Limit the time a nomination form is eligible
- Put up
posters and fliers.
- Get league ambassadors out to talk to the bowlers
in their leagues.
- Put something in each of the Hall of Fame cases
in each center that explains what the Ames Area USBC Hall of Fame is.
Tscherter made the motion to remove Hall of Fame nominations after 5
years and require a new nomination to be put back on the ballot. Devore
seconded the motion. MCU. Loneman make a motion that
everybody who we have nominations for be grandfathered in and not
dropped from eligibility. After discussion this motion was dropped.
Abel thought we should allow multiple winners in each category of the
Hall of Fame. Schoep explained to us that when the Hall of Fame was
created, it was meant to be an honor and the creators of the Hall of
Fame thought that by allowing multiple winners in each category would
cheapen the honor of winner. After discussion, it was determined
that we would leave it at 1 winner in each category. It was also
decided that the board members must get out and talk to people about
our Hall of Fame in order to get more entries. It was also
determined that we need to print Hall of Fame certificates for past
and future winners, and we need to make sure to do an article in the
newspapers for the winners. The voting on the nominations concluded
during our discussion and the 06/07 Hall of Fame inductees will be
Shirley Bauge and Keith Hawkins.
Respectfully submitted
