Board Minutes:
Meeting
called to order at
6:30 p.m. by President Terry Mason. All board members present except
Greg Knop and Steve Huntrods (both excused) plus Dave Cerka, Walt
Cottrill and Howard Kyle.
Minutes approved as
written. Treasurer’s report approved as presented.
Schoep
asked what officers
are going to be able to attend the state convention in Des Moines,
since several top officers will be bowling the ABC tournament in
Baton Rouge that weekend. Selected as state delegates are Jake
Jacobson, Eudene Lund and Greg Knop, with Bryan Carsrud, Jerry
Everett, Scott Tscherter and Tim Kadolph as alternates.
Lyle
Jennings told the
board he had nothing to report regarding YABA. Everett reported that
there have been 300 games at Sports Bowl and 20th Century,
and that oil readings either have or will be taken at each house.
Schoep
talked to the board
about the association tournament to be held in Nevada the first three
weekends in February, asking for volunteers to work at the tournament
as well as asking board members to continue to work as ambassadors to
get entries for the tournament.
Schoep
reported that he
has handled plans for the 2005 state jamboree, which will be held in
Ames the first weekend of October. Bowling will be at 20th
Century, the Hampton Inn will be state headquarters and the Sunday
workshop. Schoep also said that he has tentatively reserved the
Hickory Hall for the noon meal and meeting. Motion by Hawkins, second
by Haupt, to authorize Schoep to sign a contract with Hickory Hall
for the room and pay a $500 deposit. Motion carried.
Schoep and
Mason discussed
the merger of the AABA with the women’s and YABA associations in
the Ames area, answering questions and telling board members why they
felt a merger made good sense for the future of bowling in the next
50 years or more. Motion by Schoep, second by Jacobson, to recommend
to the delegates that the measure be approved. Unanimous approval.
Schoep lauded
Everett for
his work on the association’s website, noting that several
additions have been made and that the website looked great.
Schoep
also told the board
that inductions have been set for the new Hall of Fame members. Lysle
Musgrove will be inducted on Feb. 2 at 12:50 p.m., just ahead of the
start of the Seniors League at 20th Century. Harvey
Burkholder will be inducted posthumously on Monday, Feb. 7, at 6:20
p.m., just prior to the start of the ISU Faculty League, and Dave
Cottrill will be inducted Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 6:20 p.m., just ahead
of the start of the Ames Merchants League.
Meeting
adjourned at 7:45
p.m.
